For the ADAC car park test 2012, 40 multi-storey car parks in ten German cities were tested for safety, navigability, usability and tariffs. The winner rated “good”, comes from Potsdam and was developed and implemented by WÖHR + BAUER GmbH. The underground parking facility at Luisenplatz/Sanssouci convinced the testers.

According to the test report, “the car park is characterised by clarity and brightness. But also the good signage and the oblique, wide parking spaces distinguish the facility”.

According to ADAC a modern multi-storey car park should have a minimum height of two metres, standard parking spaces should be at least 2.5 metres wide, rising to at least 3 metres for families and 3.5 metres for the disabled. In its quality rating ADAC referred to the results of the many underground car parks tested across the entire Republic as “sobering”. However, the rating for WÖHR + BAUER GmbH underground parking was positive: “The car park at “Luisenplatz/Sanssouci” is bright, has sufficient emergency facilities and, above all, has a highly user-friendly tariff system”, praised ADAC  spokesperson Klaus Reindl.

The Munich-based company continues its success story with the award:  For several years WÖHR + BAUER has spearheaded the ADAC ranking. In 2010, the multi-storey car park below the Angerhof, the residential and commercial building that hosts the headquarters of the Linde Group and was built by WÖHR + BAUER, was rated Germany’s number 1. In the same year the underground car park Staatsoper/Unter den Linden was distinguished as the capital’s best underground car park. On its opening in 2011, ADAC testers chose the underground car park at Alexanderplatz as the second-best multi-storey car park in Germany. The fact that a project developed at the end of the 90′s is selected Germany’s best car park, underlines that WÖHR + BAUER are far ahead of their time with their own quality standards.

In 1998, WÖHR + BAUER won an investor competition initiated by the city of Potsdam. With an investment of approx. €8m, a bright and modern garage with 284 parking spaces was  built over two levels beneath the Potsdamer and the Luisenplatz. In 2000, a car park was opened right next to the Brandenburger Tor, where motorists can comfortably park their cars in pillar-free parking bays.

Another characteristic feature was the structural challenge of the sandy soil and high water table at the underground construction site. Here WÖHR + BAUER was literally able to build on the special expertise of its strategic partnership with the civil engineering experts of BAUER.

Urban development by creating underground parking facilities

WÖHR + BAUER GmbH’s specialists are also proven experts when it comes to urban development. The design of today’s square at Luisenplatz is yet another highlight of the project in Potsdam.  “Underground car parks always provide a dual benefit. If properly implemented, one is the availability of high-quality parking space and the other is urban development, as they allow for the creation of high-quality public spaces in an urban area in the first place”, explains Managing Director, Wolfgang Roeck.
