Initial situation

Initial situation

The entrance to Bad Kreuznach's pedestrian zone is marred by a car workshop. The heavily contaminated soil is seen as a major challenge for project development.

The concept

The concept

WÖHR + BAUER set itself the task of professionally disposing of the contaminated soil and developing a property that would enhance the quality of the location and increase customer frequency: a modern supermarket with an attractive car park for the neighbourhood.

The result

The proven mix of retail and parking will create a property at the southern end of the pedestrian zone that will significantly revitalise the area. The high footfall generated by the food market creates great potential for other retailers to locate in the area.

The building, designed by Munich-based Kupferschmidt Architekten, is striking in its futuristic design language. Bad Kreuznach's mayor, Dr Heike Kaster-Meurer, praised the architecture: "Instead of a banal functional building, the façade clad with metal elements and the rounding off of the building have provided an exciting solution.

WÖHR + BAUER project manager Gerhard Feuchtgruber is pleased that the hoped-for positive effects are having an impact on the surrounding area: We are proud to contribute to the upgrading of the central Mannheimer Strasse with this modern and visually successful building.

The store is an excellent example of sustainable behaviour and is in line with REWE Group's sustainability strategy. With our green building concept, we use 50 per cent less energy than a conventional standard store.
