The new Brainlab headquarters

Tower Riem

A prominent gap in the urban landscape at the entrance to Messestadt Riem will finally be closed. After the local council and WÖHR + BAUER GmbH took out an option on the tower property in November 2013, Stefan Vilsmeier, CEO and founder of Brainlab AG signed the lease for the projected building on 6 March 2014. Construction begins in 2014 with completion scheduled for 2017.

Brainlab AG is a leader in the field of imaging operation systems. Designed by Aachen-based kadawittfeldarchitektur with additional plans by pmp architects, Munich, Brainlab’s new headquarters will occupy a floor area of 24,500 m2. The competition jury voted unanimously for the modern and functional design with its striking meandering façade.

Following the strong growth of Brainlab in recent years, the company outgrew its previous base in Feldkirchen. Construction is to begin this year with the move to the new headquarters planned for the beginning of 2017.

Situated on the main access road into Messestadt Riem, the 13,566 m2 plot has proved particularly challenging for city planners. The site is next to the main access route to the Munich Trade Fair and the tower, the only remaining relic of the former airport, is a listed building

Full occupancy by Brainlab

As principal tenant, Brainlab will take over the majority of the building at the beginning of 2017. It will provide office space as well as house research & development laboratories and a manufacturing site for the medical technology company. The objective is for Brainlab to take on full occupancy of the building on a gradual basis.

Stefan Vilsmeier has special plans for the listed, 35 metre tower which will be enveloped by the glass façade of the offices. It will serve as a high-quality exhibition space for Brainlab’s products and contain a lounge area for employees and customers.

Wolfgang Roeck, Managing Director of WÖHR + BAUER GmbH, is delighted to be collaborating with Brainlab and the city: “The development of the site surrounding the Tower of Riem for Brainlab is a very demanding project which will close the prominent gap in the urban landscape at the entrance to Messestadt. We are proud to be delivering a building that architecturally reflects Brainlab’s exceptional corporate culture as an innovative and dynamic company.”
